Private Hiking Excursion – Duration 2.5 hours – $125 per person
All private hikes are intended to give the guest a taste of everything Big Sur. This usually includes two hiking locations, and your guide will determine where these hikes will be conducted based on best meeting the guest’s abilities or desires.
Half Day Hiking Excursion – Duration 4 hours – $175 per person
Like our private hike above, the Half Day Excursion is designed to provide a more immersed experience. This usually includes three hiking locations or a more challenging hike. Your guide will determine where these hikes will be conducted based on best meeting the guest’s abilities or desires.
Full Day Hiking Excursion – Duration 6 hours – $250 per person
Like our Half Day Excursion, the Full Day Excursion is designed to provide stopping at several points of interest, interspersed with various hikes. This will include visiting many locations and/or a more challenging hike. Your guide will determine where these hikes will be conducted based on best meeting the guest’s abilities or desires.
SPECIALTY HIKING EXCURSIONS
Secluded Ocean Trail Nature Walk – Carmel – 1 hour – $50 per person
Don’t miss this treasure of a one-hour breathtaking secluded nature walk on a beautiful unmarked oceanside trail with wildlife viewing and endless views of the rugged Big Sur Coastline. Located just 10 minutes from Carmel-by-the-Sea!
Robinson Jeffers Hiking Excursion – Duration 2.5 hours – $125 per person
Our most popular hike! If the contrast between forest and sea excites you, this walk is for you. We will first introduce you to centuries-old coastal redwoods and the flora and fauna that thrive symbiotically in their presence, while exploring a beautiful canyon along a cascading mountain stream. Our journey continues down to the ocean, where we will explore a jetty away from shore. Here, you might see the daily otter or harbor seal, not to mention dolphins, or the gray or humpback whales that often drop by for a visit. Forest Treasures Hunt & Hiking Excursion – Duration 2.5 hours – $125 per person
Families seeking the perfect mix of adventure and exercise can strap on those boots and dive into nature with us for a family outing certain to excite the whole family. It combines an easy excursion through the redwood forest and along the spectacular Pacific shoreline, all the while having fun learning about and hunting for the treasures of the forest. Goody bags including a Forest Treasures list will be provided for the children.
Big Sur’s Magical Mystery Tour Under the Stars – Duration 2 hours – 8:00 pm – Great for families– $125 per person
Let us light up your evening with our illuminating night hikes! There is nothing like the night sky in Big Sur, where you feel as though you can touch the stars. Join us for a nighttime hiking adventure in the beautiful Big Sur wilderness, the stars and moon shining brightly above, sometimes dotted with coastal clouds. Our naturalist guides are well versed in the constellations and meteor showers visible at the various times of the year. Opportunities along the way to smell the pungent aroma of Bay Laurel or pause in the dark and sit in a meditative state surrounded by an enchanting circle of old growth redwoods. Shining light on the mysterious night forest creatures of Big Sur along the way!
Wild Mushroom Foraging Hike – Duration 2.5 hours – $175 per person
This seasonal hiking excursion in the wetter months of autumn/winter/spring takes us to the forest in search of some of the most sought-after wild foods – mushrooms! You will learn how to look for wild mushrooms with a specialist guide who will teach you how to identify edible and nonedible varieties, along with numerous other edible and medicinal plants such as Redwood Sorrel, California Sagebrush and Bay Laurel. If seeing mushrooms is not a concern, this experience can be enjoyed year-round learning about which local flora is edible and medicinal!
Spiritual Hike & Hermitage Tour – Duration 4 hours – $200 per person
This excursion provides a special focus on the intense spirituality one can experience here in Big Sur. Your senses will awaken among the cathedral-like redwoods, cascading waterfalls, wildlife, flora and fauna. You will learn about forest bathing and the powerful connections that nature can provide. Your spirit will soar as you take in the breathtaking beauty of the untamed Pacific Ocean, rugged coastline and rock formations. The experience culminates in a picnic lunch and tour of the New Camaldoli Hermitage property, which features unsurpassed ocean views and a serene chapel where you can pause to pray, reflect or simply admire the peaceful setting.
CARMEL VALLEY HIKING EXCURSIONS
Let us show you the beauty of Carmel Valley! Big Sur Guides & Hiking is proud to announce that we are now offering guided hikes in a few select locations in Carmel Valley! We are offering hikes for all ages ranging from very comfortable to more challenging. There is a variety of open terrain, natural space, and hiking trail opportunities available for locals and visitors alike. Lavish willow covered banks along the Carmel River through cottonwood-sycamore groves of the flood plain ascending through oak savannas, thick stands of chaparral, and up into the Santa Lucia Mountain foothill trails reaching secluded canyons boasting ponds, waterfalls, pines, and redwoods. Some of our trails lead us to an inspiring lookout of the Pacific Ocean high atop a spot perfect for a picnic!
Carmel Valley Private Hiking Excursion – Duration 2.5 hours – $125 per person
All private hikes are intended to provide the guest with a taste of everything Carmel Valley! This will include one hiking trail and we will determine which hike we think will be the best match for you and your party.
Carmel Valley Half Day Hiking Excursion – Duration 4 hours – $175 per person
Much like our Private Hiking Excursion above, but more immersed by including a second trail, or enjoying a longer more challenging trail.
Carmel Full Day Hiking Excursion – Duration 6 hours – $250 per person
Should you choose to immerse yourself in a full day of exploring the beautiful terrain of Carmel Valley, this experience is for you! We have access to multiple trails of varying difficulty, and based on your desires, we will tailor this experience especially for you!

Big Sur Discovery Tour

This particular tour features a montage of our favorite places. This is a driving and light walking tour where we focus on showing you the highlight attractions of Big Sur! Comfortable hiking or running shoes with good tread are recommended.
Carmel, Pebble Beach, Carmel Valley Discovery Tour

Option 2: 6 hours – $275 per person
Treat yourself and your family to this amazing experience of visiting the finest white sand beaches in Carmel. Gaze upon the most beautiful real estate, world famous golf resorts, and highlighted attractions of the 17 Mile Drive in Pebble Beach. Wind down this visually pleasing day with the opportunity of tasting some of the finest wines in California, in Carmel Valley Village. This is a driving and light walking sightseeing tour.
The Jack Kerouac Experience – Duration 2.5 hours – $150 per person
This driving tour by Big Sur Guides & Hiking is a photographer’s dream come true! Traverse the Old Coast Road – the original coastal highway stretching from Andrew Molera State Park to Bixby Bridge along a well-maintained dirt road offering vistas of the Ventana Wilderness. We will picnic along the way, saying hello to old-growth redwoods and a variety of flora and fauna, while witnessing some of the most spectacular mountain and ocean views in Big Sur.
The Big Sur Galleries Tour – Duration 2.5 hours – $150 per person
Join Big Sur Guides & Hiking on a tour of area galleries – a rare opportunity to see the art of Big Sur and meet some of the artists as well. Discover treasures at the Hawthorne Gallery, the Coast Gallery, the Phoenix Shop at Nepenthe, and the Gallery at Loma Vista. (Note: Galleries may vary due to current availability).
Helicopter Tours – Duration approximately 1 hour – Starting at $395 per person
For those of us who have cherished this place called Big Sur, this tour is for you. It offers a perspective that satisfies all of our senses, and will visually leave you speechless!
